Parent Responsibilities |
|
|
The team parent serves a vital role in making the season
a success for the kids. How much fun the kids have will be partially dependent
on the job you do. Your primary responsibility is to work closely with
the coach and other parents on the team to coordinate the various activities
and responsibilities that need to be completed for the team. If you can
work as a team with the coach and other parents on the team your kids
will have a tremendous season regardless of the score.. |
|
|
Here are some of the responsibilities that you will need
to coordinate: |
|
|
Team Banner |
You can make the banner yourself if you or one of your
parent are talented in this area. The banner should include your team
colors, the team name and the name of the kids on the team. Teams in older
divisions occasionally prefer a team flag with only the team name. There
are a number of companies that specialize in making team banners. The
cost is typically around $10 per player. Make sure the banner is ready
for picture day. Many of the professional banner companies get overwhelmed
around picture day so plan ahead and get your order in as early as possible. |
|
|
Snack
Schedule |
Snacks are the highlight of the AYSO experience for many
younger players. Every parent should be assigned a game where they bring
snacks and drinks for half-time and after the game. Half-time snacks should
generally be something light like cut oranges or watermelon. After the
game snacks should help restore energy and fluids. Water should always
be available to any child during the game. You should remind the parent
responsible for snacks a day or two before the game. |
|
|
Snack
Bar Duties |
Each
team is assigned several snack bar duties throughout the season. The team
parent should work with the parents in assuring that their team fullfills
their responsibilities. AYSO is an all volunteer organization. Every parent
should work their fair share. Why scheduling parents to work your team's
snack bar duty, consideration should be given to parents who already put
time in to coach or referee. |
|
|
Team
Communication |
There
are times when every player must be contacted. Game or practice cancellations
are rare but are just one example of one of these instances. You assume
or delegate this important responsibility. It's a good idea to create
and distribute a team roster with everyone's phone number so you're able
to reach everyone quickly if needed. |
|
|
Party
Coordinating |
Kids
love partys! Pizza or pool parties are always fun for the kids and allow
parents to socialize and get to know one another away from the field.
You should organize a few parties throughout the season if possible. Most
teams usually have a season ending party where awards and gifts are handed
out. |
|
|
Awards |
Trophies
are not provided by the Region. You should discuss this with your parents
and reach a consensus if you would like to have awards for your kids.
The region will provide you with contacts where you can order awards for
your team. |
|
|
Miscellaneous |
Many
teams have a decorated quarter can where parents make contributions after
the team scores a goal. Often these contributions go towards pizza parties
and other team expenses. Girls often like to have ponytail holders to
keep their hair out of their face while they play. Teams often get or
make ponytail holders that are the same for all the players. Remember
that the players should not wear anything that may pose a danger to themselves
or other players. Ponytail holders should be made of material and not
have any metal. |
